PC Students Take Cultural Heritage & Transfer Trip to UC Merced
Porterville College recently concluded another successful Cultural Heritage & Transfer Trip, this time in collaboration with UC Merced. The trip, led by PC Director of Student Success Programs Reagen Dozier, featured a diverse team of faculty and staff, including Jessica Malisch, Juan Villegas, Hector Cuevas, Juan Román Jr., Hala Alnager, Chad Williams, and five UC Merced students who shared their personal experiences and guided campus tours.
A highlight of the trip was an all-you-can-eat dining experience hosted by the Pavilion. This provided PC students with a taste of UC Merced's campus life and the opportunity to connect with current students.
Following the visit, PC students participated in the "Making Connections: After Transfer Visit Survey." The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing that UC Merced, its staff, students, and Jessica made them reconsider their transfer possibilities and feel a sense of belonging and success at the university.
Ms. Dozier and the team behind the Cultural Heritage & Transfer Trips have made a commitment to take PC students to every undergraduate UC campus, demonstrating that there is a place for them at these institutions. So far, the program has visited UCLA, UC Irvine, and UC Merced. They plan to visit UC Berkeley later this Fall, and UC Davis in the Spring.
The care and treatment received at UC Merced has set a high bar for future visits. So much so, that trip organizers have pledged to make UC Merced an annual Fall tradition.
A special thank you to UC Merced for their exceptional hospitality and support!
