The Panorama Creative Music Summit has become one of the most anticipated Performing Arts events each year, and this year did not disappoint! The 8th iteration of the annual event welcomed Lauren Elizabeth Baba to our campus. Lauren is an LA-based violinist, violist, composer, arranger, and improviser who specializes in performing and composing creative improvised music. Over three days at the end of September, Lauren collaborated closely with our Jazz Studies students through workshops, rehearsals, and a final concert that showcased the music they had practiced together. Lauren’s diverse career experiences provided our students with invaluable insights into making a successful career as a working musician.

"The jazz students have been on an absolute high since last week. Working with Lauren Baba was an amazing experience, and quite a few of them have described it as life-changing," says BC Jazz Studies Director Kris Tiner. "The students rose to the occasion to tackle some extraordinarily challenging music, and being able to rehearse together and share the stage with such a gifted and generous musician was inspiring for us all."

The Performing Arts department sends a massive thank you to Lauren Baba for dedicating her time and expertise to this year’s event. Thank you, as well, to everyone who attended the Panorama Creative Music Summit’s free concert on September 25th. The attendance was the largest ever for the Summit!
