BC Faculty and Staff Celebrate Closing Day 2024
Bakersfield College administrators, faculty, and staff recently gathered in the Renegade Events Center to celebrate the 2023-24 academic year. Participants had the opportunity to have breakfast with their peers, receive updates from employee unions and committees, hear encouraging remarks from BC administration, and honor two faculty members who received prestigious awards.
BC President, Dr. Jerry E. Fliger, welcomed attendees and congratulated them on another year of educational excellence. He also encouraged everyone to attend the upcoming commencement celebration. Calvin Yu, VP of Finance and Administrative Services, and Billie Joe Rice, VP of Instruction also shared congratulatory remarks and gave important updates for staff and faculty.
The morning's highlight was the presentation of two annual awards recognizing outstanding faculty members for the academic year: The Shirley Trembley Distinguished Teaching Award and the Margaret Levinson Faculty Leadership Award. Bryan Hirayama, Professor in Communications, received the Margaret Levinson Leadership Award, and Isabel Stierle, Professor in Biology, received the Shirley Trembley Distinguished Teaching Award. Both recipients received standing ovations from attendees.
The event concluded with final remarks from Dr. Fliger as he expressed the positive optimism he feels for the future of Bakersfield College and his excitement for the upcoming commencement ceremony.
