Office of Student Life Hosts Consent Fair
Bakersfield College hosted the Consent Fair earlier this week at the Campus Center Breezeway. The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of consent, sexual assault prevention, personal boundaries, and healthy relationships through interactive games, art, and entertainment.
The fair was coordinated by Adrianna Oceguera, the Student Identity and Sexual Misconduct Education Liaison, who discussed the purpose of creating the event, “I started my position on campus about four years ago, and I wanted to start an event focused on the topic of consent for SAAM – Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I am also passionate about intersectionality, so I tried to create an event that combined the two,” said Adrianna, “So, we put together a fair that included student clubs like SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Acceptance Club), NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), LGBTQIA, and others to provide specific training around the topics of consent and sexual assault.”
The event featured dozens of activities encouraging engagement, communication, and fun. Many BC students stopped by to take part in the festivities, activities, and interactive resource booths.
The goal is to engage and educate students on these sensitive topics to create a safer and more inclusive environment on campus and in the surrounding community. The plan is to host more Consent Fairs in the future. Please visit the BC Online Events calendar for dates and information.
