Ever wonder what Cerro Coso Community College was like back in the day?

If so, you’re in luck.

Founding President Dr. Richard Jones is slated to attend the CC Foundation’s upcoming “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser on April 6 and will no doubt be happy to share memories of the college’s early days.

“When I was appointed to serve as the founding president in 1970, we had no idea we might be around long enough to celebrate CCCC’s 50th,” Jones said.

The CC Foundation is bringing back the popular “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser for the first time since 2018 to commemorate the college’s anniversary.

Past and present CCCC instructors and staff are especially encouraged to attend.

As for Jones, he brought a lengthy background in education to his post as CCCC’s founding president – which he served as from 1970 to 1975. He went on to work for many more years, holding various administrative academic posts.

“Denim and Diamonds” will offer an evening of food, dancing, entertainment, and surprises at the Cerro Coso Ridgecrest Campus’ outdoor terrace.

Past events have had a down-home rustic feel, but this year’s gala will have more of an upscale vibe – as suits the golden anniversary.

The “Denim and Diamonds” Gala is a signature event for the CCCC Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to promote the educational needs and accomplishments of Cerro Coso Community College, support the financial needs of the College through fundraising efforts, and educate the public about the College's role in the well-being of the communities and citizens it serves.

The event will be held April 6 and begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $150 per person, with a portion of the ticket price being tax deductible. Tickets can be purchased from the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce at (760) 375-8331 or from the Denim & Diamonds event website. Seating is limited, but tickets are still available. For more information, contact the Foundation at kimberly.metcalf@cerrocoso.edu or call (760) 384-6145.
