BC Theater Program Presents 2024 Spring Play Festival
Bakersfield College’s Theater Program announced the details of their 2024 Spring Play Festival, featuring four contemporary plays directed by BC Theatre students. The festival will be presented from February 28 to March 10, with all four shows presented in the Edward Simonsen Indoor Theatre at Bakersfield College. Tickets are available at the BC Performing Arts Eventbrite page.
“We are excited to bring back the Spring Play Festival for the second year,” says BC Theatre Professor Brian Sivesind. “Working with the student directors, we found four plays that that would help showcase our amazing group of student actors while giving them all a chance to hone their craft in a repertory setting. This is an eclectic group of plays and we can't wait to share them with our community!”
Happening over two weekends, the 2024 Spring Play Festival is offering the opportunity for four BC Theatre students to gain directing experience early in their education, a rare opportunity. The first weekend will feature the critically-acclaimed dark comedy Reborning by Zayd Dohrn, directed by Alana Edwards, playing February 28, March 1, and 2. Accompanying Reborning in the first weekend is Joshua Harmon’s not-so-romantic rom-com Significant Other, directed by Nathan Armendariz, on February 29, March 2, and 3.
The second weekend will be kicked off by David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Proof, directed by Alexis Mazza, playing March 6, 8, and 9. Along with it, Christopher Durang’s off-the-wall comedy Beyond Therapy, directed by Savanna Lux, plays March 7, 9, and 10. Please note that all four of these plays contain strong language, adult themes, and discussions of sensitive issues. No one under 14 is permitted.
