Bakersfield College's Student Operated Restaurant, The Renegade Room, is Now Open for the Spring Semester
The Renegade Room, a restaurant operated by students enrolled in Bakersfield College’s Culinary Arts program, is now open for dine-in reservations and to-go orders for the spring semester. The Renegade Room offers gourmet, fresh restaurant style meals and service while students receive hands-on training in both the kitchen and front of the house customer service roles.
The Renegade Room will be open for Tuesday evening fine dining dinner, Wednesday for lunch, and Thursday evening for a themed buffet. The menu changes weekly but is available on the college’s Renegade Room webpage.
Upcoming dinner favorites include Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Pot Pie, and buffet themes such as “A Taste of New Orleans” and “French Classics.”
BC’s culinary students attend lecture classes on cooking skills and then are able to apply those skills in a lab setting, at the Renegade Room Restaurant, where they learn the various aspects of a fully operational kitchen and dining room. The program emphasizes a hands-on curriculum which is utilized in the Food and Nutrition Program’s student-operated restaurant, The Renegade Room. By completing the appropriate courses, students earn certificates in Culinary Arts and degrees in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, and Nutrition and Dietetics. Students who participate in these courses gain an understanding of nutrition, production techniques and management procedures.
